Lukman Awad

Lukman (he/him) received his bachelor’s degree from Carleton College where he studied Linguistics and Computer Science. A long and winding road brought him to joining Current Wellness. He moved to Raleigh in 2018 for a job in artificial intelligence, and recently returned after an adventure in Asheville, NC where he managed a locals-oriented craft cocktail bar.
Dance is Lukman’s primary sport, though he also practices yoga and identifies strongly with the yogic concept that we have permission to meet ourselves where we are, as we are, every day. In addition to cultivating a positive relationship with ourselves, he believes that much healing happens in communities. This is why he is outspoken about dismantling diet culture and creating accessible, welcoming spaces. He hopes this energy will contribute to the goals held by the Current and its community members.
Outside of work, Lukman spends his time cooking, picnicking with friends, cross-stitching in coffee shops, and dancing.
“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive.” –Merce Cunningham
Lukman believes that we all deserve something that makes us feel alive, even in moments when it gives nothing else. To truly exist is the biggest gift.
