NeSonya (she/her) has a social work career history in aging, spirituality, and health. She is a self-care advocate, an administrator, residential assisted living facility owner, and a curvy yoga instructor.
As someone with curves and a “non-traditional” yoga body, NeSonya has learned to embrace her body exactly as it is in every moment across her life course. At the start of her yoga journey, she begin practicing yoga over 12 years ago when she entered a yoga studio in search of a community healing space that would meet her where she was in her wellness pursuit. Unfortunately, her search continually returned homogeneous spaces that were not inclusive for all yoga bodies.
In search of a way to advance her personal practice, teach yoga and meditation to her children, and give back to her community, she obtained yoga certification for teaching youth experiencing trauma in 2014. For three years, she lead yoga classes for at-risk youth and their guardian. Later, she obtained a Hatha yoga instructor certification in 2017 with specialization in curvy yoga. She continued her teaching at a local community fitness center for over two years. Sharing her message of “letting your light shine bright and being okay with what is NOW”. Her passion as a yoga teacher is empowering everyone to approach their own wellness in a self-compassionate, body positive, and restorative way.
