Shanice (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate (LCAS-A). She received her Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a certification in Addiction Studies from North Carolina Central University and her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Elizabeth City State University.
Shanice's counseling work has primary focus on individuals from various backgrounds in both residential and outpatient capacities, non-profit organizations and community mental health. Shanice has experience working with school-aged children, teenagers and adults who struggle with anxiety, coping skills, depression, dual diagnosis, emotional disturbance, life transitions, self esteem, stress, substance use, work-life balance and more.
Shanice believes in using a collaborative approach that focuses on developing an egalitarian relationship between counselor and client to facilitate healthy dialogue for positive change, mutual understanding and different perspectives. She incorporates the use of evidenced-based practices and treatment modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Shanice strives to continue to abide by the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and fidelity. She values connection, contribution, communication, honesty, prosperity, respect and strength amongst other things. Shanice's mission is to continue to educate and assist in decreasing the stigma associated with mental health and substance use by speaking openly, demonstrating compassion and empowering her clients every step of the way.
