Dr. Ian Collins DSW, LCSW

Dr. Ian Collins is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist with over a decade of experience treating adolescents and adults presenting with trauma, anxiety, depression, and severe and persistent mental health disorders. He specializes in trauma, adjustment disorders, men's mental health, and fatherhood/expectant parents, areas he approaches with both clinical rigor and genuine personal investment.
Ian has practiced across a broad range of settings, including juvenile detention facilities, outpatient clinics, university counseling centers, group practices, and homeless services programs, where he also held administrative roles as Clinical Director, Assistant Director and Program Manager. He holds a Bachelor's in Social Work from East Carolina University, where he was nominated for the Distinguished Alumni Award, a Master's in Social Work from the University of Maryland, and a Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Alabama.
Clinically, Ian integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), and Open-Dialogue to meet clients where they are and support meaningful, lasting change. His approach is collaborative and strengths-based, grounded in the belief that clients are the experts on their own lives.
Prior to his clinical career, Dr. Collins was a touring musician who recorded and released five studio albums. He is also the co-founder of HelpFinder NYC, a mobile application designed to connect homeless and underserved New Yorkers with essential services.
Ian sees clients in person in North Carolina and virtually in NC and New York.
