Practice Types: Mental Health Therapists

Rebecca began Be Well Oak City, PLLC, in March 2017 after practicing in a neuropsychiatric outpatient clinic, providing in-home family therapy and individual and family therapy in a psychiatric hospital, and working in crisis and emergency mental health services. She graduated with a Masters of Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill in 2003 and completed the Health Coaching Certificate Program at the Duke Center for Integrative Medicine in 2014.

Rebecca works from a compassionate, curious, relationship based, and forward thinking behavioral change model. She integrates skills from multiple modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, motivational interviewing, Trauma Resiliency Model, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and functional analysis of behaviors. The relationship with the client is first and foremost and being present and grounded in the moment is the starting place. She uses language "play" to assist in examining thought patterns, and uses humor to bring balance.

She is fascinated by the intersection of health, wellness and mental health and is always considering the person in environment as a whole and synergistically.

One of Rebecca's most favorite Mr. Rogers quotes is, "Anything that is human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.'" She believes that this is the essence of psychotherapy, to authentically share experience with another human, in a way that reduces loneliness and isolation and increases compassion for both the self and the world.

When not working, Rebecca finds joy in yoga, trail running, swimming, eating delicious food, reading, pretending to garden, parenting two amazing humans, and laughing at the antics of her most adorable dog and kitten.
