(Cancelled) Body Talk: A Therapeutic Group for Teens

Explore connection, creativity, and safety in your body
It’s not always easy to feel at home in your body—especially during adolescence. Between cultural expectations, social media, bullying, and the pressure to look or act a certain way, many teens develop a complicated relationship with their bodies. Body Talk is a space to slow down, get grounded, and build trust in yourself and your experience.
This 6-week group is designed to support teens in reconnecting with their bodies in a safe, creative, and judgment-free environment. Instead of focusing on appearance or weight, we’ll explore what it means to feel present, resourced, and supported from the inside out.
Whether you’ve experienced body-based bullying, struggled with food and body thoughts, or simply feel disconnected from yourself, this group offers space to be curious and compassionate. Each session includes grounding, movement, creative expression (like journaling or collage), and time for authentic connection.
Led by Julia Carter, LCSWA, a trauma-informed therapist and movement professional, Body Talk integrates somatic, expressive, and relational approaches to support deeper self-trust and emotional resilience. This group is for teens who:
  • Feel disconnected from or uncomfortable in their bodies
  • Are navigating disordered eating thoughts or behaviors
  • Have experienced body shaming, bullying, or identity-based discrimination
  • Feel overwhelmed by societal or cultural body standards
  • Are in therapy and want more space to explore embodiment and nervous system support
  • Want to build a stronger sense of self through movement, creativity, and connection
This group may not be a good fit for teens who:
  • Are in the early stages of eating disorder recovery or navigating a mental health crisis and would benefit from more intensive, individualized care
  • Are experiencing thoughts of suicide that feel overwhelming or hard to manage without immediate support
  • Are currently in crisis and in need of emergency mental health service
