Embodied Movement for Eating Disorder Recovery

Are you looking for more support in outpatient treatment? This series is a combination of mindful movement and embodiment practices to support nervous system regulation specifically for eating disorder recovery. Each week will begin with brief content and discussion, transition into breath work and movement, and then end with grounding and restoration. This will be an intentional space for connection to others, while also connecting to your body. The movement forms will be a blend of mobility, pilates-inspired strength training, and yoga with a focus on meeting your body right where it’s at.

You would be a good fit for this group if:

  • You are in eating disorder recovery and medically cleared to start exercising
  • You are intimidated by gyms and fitness spaces.
  • You are worried if you go to a fitness studio, you will get triggered by diet culture language
  • You are nervous that if you start exercising on your own, you might overdo it and engage in over-exercising.

In this group, you can expect to learn:

  • Safe ways to engage in strength training
  • Options to adapt movements so they feel good for your body
  • Ways to listen to your body
  • Ways to find appropriate balance of challenge and rest
  • How to slow down
  • Breathing techniques to regulate your nervous system for stress and anxiety
  • That you are not alone in this journey

Brit (she/they) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LCMHCA), fitness professional, and co-founder and owner of Current Wellness. She specializes in working with folks who are experiencing anxiety, disordered eating, disordered exercise, and trauma. She uses a somatic lens, a Health at Every Size® approach, as well as intuitive eating principles to help clients create a healthy relationship with their body, food, and exercise. She is trained in Embodied Recovery for Eating Disorders, as well as EMDR (Level 1 and 2) for trauma-focused therapy.

Their movement classes focus on intentional and slow movements so that their clients can notice what’s happening in their body. With this information, she teaches her clients to follow their body’s wisdom to make informed choices about appropriate intensity and rest. This helps foster enjoyable movement and body respect to improve overall well-being.
